Abstract

The purpose of the study was to find out the relationship between the selected physical fitness variables namely explosive power, speed and the selected skills related variables namely dribbling ability and shooting ability among college men basketball players To achieve this purpose of the study, thirty college men basketball players studying at Meerut College, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, were selected as subjects at random. Their age ranged between 18 to 24 years. The selected skills related variables namely dribbling ability and shooting ability were selected as dependent variable for this study and also the following physical fitness components like explosive power and speed were selected as independent variables for this study. The following test items were selected for the study to collect relevant data. The explosive power was tested by using vertical jump. Speed was assessed by conducting 50 mts run and the selected skill related variables namely dribbling ability and shooting ability were measured by using Johnson basketball ability test. The Pearson product moment correlation was used to find out the relationship between the selected physical fitness variables and selected skill related variables of college men basketball players if any. The.05 level of confidence was fixed to test the level of significance which was considered as an appropriate. The results of the study showed that there was significant relationship between selected physical fitness variables and dribbling & shooting ability of college men basketball players.
