Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to examine the effect of six weeks of resistance training on selected physiological variables. Thirty subjects from the Alagappa Arts college Karaikudi were selected as a subject in the study. The age of the subjects were ranged between 18–25 years. The subject was divided into two groups. The experimental group followed a specially designed resistance training program. Body fat percentage and specific girth measurement were taken to assess physiological changes. All the measurements were taken before and after the six-weeks program of resistance training. To find out the significant different between the mean scores of experimental group and control group on percentage of body fat and the circumference of the body segments. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used. The level of significance was set at 0.05. The results showed that the resistance training program had a positive effect on the experimental group. The body fat percentage of the experimental group showed a significant decrease and the circumference of their chest, thighs, calves, and arms increased and the control group stayed relatively constant.
