Galium aparine L. (rubiaceae) & A new record for northern plains of India

Galium aparine L. is a weed of wastelands and roadsides mainly in the northern cooler climates. It has been reported from the foothills of India, but this is a first report from the plains of northern India. This species comes up in the post-winter period in the plains, but has been recorded before the winter season in the hills. It is a species of the Eurasian region; record of this species from the plains of India assumes significance as it has naturalised over extensive areas and is one of the important invasive weeds of cereals and canola in Canada, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
