Abstract

The results of preliminary characterization and evaluation of 89 accessions of mungbean germplasm coLlected from Andhra Pradesh under the National Agricultural Technology Project (Plant Biodiversity) have been presented in this paper. A total of 26 agro-morphological characters was studied. The accessions exhibited good variability in both qualitative and quantitative traits. Among the qualitative traits studied, maximum diversity was observed in leaf colour, leafiness, pod colour and seed colour. Variability observed in quantitative traits was in days to flowering (40–60 days), plant height (15.6–49.8 cm), number of clusters per plant (2.2–13.3), number of pods/plant (5–35.3), 100-seed weight (2.28–6.6 g). The protein content ranged from 12.6 to 25.9%. Correlation coefficients of the quantitative traits have been analysed.
