The current study analyzed the genetic diversity of 47 white jute genotypes based on eight seed yields and its contributing characteristics. The result indicated that 47 genotypes (indigenous, exotic and improved type) were grouped into five clusters based on Mahalanobis’ D2 analysis. Cluster I had the most genotypes (43), whereas clusters II, III, IV and V each had only one genotype. Seed yield contributed the most to diversity (47.27%), followed by pod length (12.21%). The germplasm line CIJ-44 produced the highest seed yield of 31.05 g per plant with 64.5 pods per plant, pod length of 9.75 cm and number of seeds per pod of 31.85. The first four principal components accounted for 78.09% of the total variance, indicating a high correlation among the characters investigated as per the dendrograms of cluster analysis and PCA. The first principal component contributed to 28.43% of the variation and was of the utmost significance. Accordingly, in PC1, plant height and pod length traits were important in dividing the genotypes for the sake of their high loadings.
