Abstract

Verucous carcinoma is unusual variant of squamous cell carcinoma which is locally invasive and local recurrence may also common. In this type of carcinoma distance metastasis occur rarely so the prognosis is also good for them. They generally occur in the head neck region and possibility of transformation of these lesions into squamous cell carcinoma is high, for which prognosis become worst. Here in this article we discuss about a case who primarily diagnosed with verrucous carcinoma on right lateral border of tongue and undergone surgery for the same. Recovery was also uneventful but within 4 months of time again he developed a lesion on the right lateral border of the tongue. The clinical and histopathological study of the lesion suggestive of squamous cell carcinoma (early invasive). For the same we decided for aggressive treatment plan to prevent further spread of the lesion. Patient undergone right side hemiglossectomy along with SOHND on right side and reconstruction of the tongue with radial forearm free flap which proved to be functionally helpful for the patient.
