To obtain the correlation between Down syndrome and a delayed eruption of permanent teeth according to the chronologic age of the individual.
80 children within the mixed dentition period of 6–12 years were included in the study. 30 among them were children with Down syndrome and 50 healthy ones. The clinical examinations and radiographic evaluations were carried out in order to differentiate between the chronologic and dental age of the individual.
The Down syndrome was found to influence the delayed eruption of teeth (p<0.001) in children, as compared to healthy children with a weighted average of delay at 1.20 years.
The children with Down syndrome should be evaluated regularly to provide for a good health and a high standard of life.
