This study was designed to evaluate the bond strength of porcelain to white gold (Pd-Ag) and Nickel-Chromium (Ni-Cr) alloys.
Rectangular-shaped specimens (25×3×0.5) mm were cast with white gold and Ni-Cr alloys and used as adherent materials. The Pd-Ag bonding surfaces were abraded with an airborne-alumina particle of 100 μm while that of Ni-Cr abraded with 250 μm. Specimens were fabricated by applying an opaquer and two dentin layer up to 1.1 mm in thickness at different cycling temperature. Bond strength for each group (n=7) was measured and compared statistically (α=0.05).
There were significant differences in bond strength of porcelain to Nobel and non-Nobel experimental alloys.
Based on the study results, it can be stated that the type of metal to ceramic alloys of different element composition may affect the porcelain bond-strength.
