Abstract

Tobacco use is a serious public health challenge in several regions of the world. Current trends show that more than 8 million deaths will be associated with tobacco use worldwide by 2030. According to the world health organization (WHO), tobacco is the single greatest cause of preventable death globally.

To assess the awareness and attitudes towards tobacco control measures developed by COTPA.

The cross-sectional study was designed to assess the awareness and attitudes towards tobacco control measures developed by COTPA.. Following convenience sampling, equal representations from all 4 zones were taken. Questionnaires were distributed to the individuals and data was collected. Data was analyzed using SPSS software (Version 20.0).

There is association between awareness, age and education. As the age increases the awareness about anti-tobacco laws also increase. As the education increase the awareness about anti-tobacco laws also increase. There is no significance between gender and awareness.

In this community based study to see the awareness and attitude towards COTPA, good awareness was reported by 44% and positive attitude by 92% of the population.
