Abstract

Child development activities must be based not only to fulfill physical nutrition for children, but also to pay attention to meet the needs ofpsychological nutrition, such as giving love, attention and affection to children thatcan be manifested in talk, action, touch and gentle speech to children(1). These are the values of Tender Loving Care (TLC)-based parenting, especially in growth and development services by cadres in Taman Posyandu. This researchaims to analyze the dominant indicators in the competence of communication skills of health cadres in TLC-based Taman Posyandu. It is a kind of quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. This research was carried out in 4 districts (cities) in East Java Province with a large sample consisting of 320 Taman Posyandu. The results of thisresearch show that the dominant indicator in the competencies of cadre communication skills is an indicator of understanding the basic communication with children when performing services in Taman Posyandu (0.78). This skills needs to be continuously developed optimally to provide growth and development services in Taman Posyandu, sothe services can be implemented properly and wholeheartedly by TLC-based cadres.
