Diabetes is the most prevailing disease of today's world. Many complementary and alternative medicines are being used to treat diabetes mostly derived from plant sources. Pterocarpus marsupium is one such drug. Many works are being done to inhibit α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes there by controlling post prandial hyperglycemia. The present study was undertaken to see the anti enzymatic action of Pterocarpus marsupium against α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes.
Invitro assessment was done to see enzymatic inhibition. The Ic50 was calculated using linear regression equation.
The Ic50 value for α-amylase was found to be 31.03 μg/ml and the Ic50 value for α-glucosidase was 39.97 μg/ml.
