Spinal Anesthesia for Knee Arthroscopy without Fluid Preloading

Abstract

Investigate that spinal anesthesia can be given safely without fluid preloading

30 patients were given spinal anesthesia, all of them were class Ӏ ASA (American Society of Anesthesiologists), and a comparison was done between the blood pressure before and after block for each patient. all of them were class Ӏ ASA, age 20–40 years, body weight 70 ± 6.8 kg.

At baseline mean systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 135 mm Hg, after 6 minutes blood pressure reduced by 18.5%, after that the reduction of SBP did not decrease below 30% up to 30 minutes. Immediately after block the increase in the blood pressure could be due to tension and anxiety, then decreased in the first 10 minutes, but never below our standard value which was 30% decrease from the baseline (below 100 mm Hg).

spinal anesthesia can be given safely without fluid preloading, if special technical steps are considered.
