To assess the anti-plaque efficacy of a dentifrice containing low concentration (0.004%) chlorhexidine
Plaque score was assessed in 28 participants in a randomized, double-blind prospective cross-over study. The study participants either used 0.004% chlorhexidine containing dentifrice (test group) or a commercially available fluoridated dentifrice (control group). Clinical parameters were recorded at the baseline and again after 4 days.
Plaque scores were found to be significantly lesser in the test group (p = 0.02). Also, significantly greater additional plaque (16.06%) was formed in the control group in comparison to the test group (p = 0.01). No statistically significant difference was detected between the test and the control groups at baseline with regard to plaque score. Conclusion: The reduction of plaque scores with a dentifrice containing low 0.004% chlorhexidine was significantly greater as compare to control.
