There is increasing evidence to suggest that the epidemiologic transition is well underway in India and other less industrialized countries. Hence there is a need to review the status of our understanding of the impending epidemic of non-communicable chronic diseases (NCD) in India, given their chronic nature and their impact on society.
In this paper, attempt has been made to study the extent to which the risk factors contribute to chronic diseases. Specifically, inside the chronic disease afflicted group, one could be interested to quantify the extent of influence of each of the risk factors and behaviors. Data set used here is a primary one collected through a household survey. Baye's method has been used to calculate the posterior probabilities.
Given a person suffers from a chronic disease; the probabilities of him/her belonging to a particular group are calculated.
Such an exercise can help in focusing attention to the risk factors.
