Abstract

The purpose Lecturer, Department Of Cardiovascular,Respiratory Disorder and Geriatrics, Faculty of physical therapy, Cairo university. Egypt.

Lecturer, Department of Basic science, Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University, Egyptpose of this study was designed to assess the relation of regular physical exercise program on body mass index (BMI) and its effect on ocular health represented as intraocular pressure (IOP).

Fifteen subjects were enrolled in the study with mean age 41.7±3.4,who underwent a physical training program on stationary bicycle for 30 minutes, 3 times/week for 3months.Body mass index and intraocular pressure were measured before starting the program and 3months after.IOP was measured pre-exercise, Immediately after exercise, after 30 minutes and after each month also.

Statistical analysis of the results showed that, there were significant decrease in BMI, and IOP. For IOP the significant decrease was obvious after 30 minutes after exercise especially after 2-months and 3- months of training.

Therefore exercise that causes reduction in BMI is associated with reduction in IOP declared the healthy ocular status and preservation of regular blood flow to the eye.
