Study of Urinary Tract Infection in Infants and Young Children with Acute Diarrhea

Abstract

To identify urinary tract infection (UTI) in infants and young children presenting with acute diarrhoea.

Department of Paediatrics, JSS Hospital, Mysore

239 children aged between 1 month to 5 years admitted with acute diarrhoea.

Incidence of UTI in infants and young children presenting with acute diarrhoea.

12 (5%) cases of the study population had UTI. 50% of the cases were in the age group of 612 months. None of them had symptoms suggestive of UTI. 83.4% of the cases had E.coli in their urine culture.

Routine screening for UTI must be done in infants and young children with acute diarrhoea.
