Cancer is one of the major threats to public health in the developed world and increasingly in the developing world. Oral cancer is the 8th most common cancer in the world and India has one of the highest incidences. In India, Oral cancer is the leading cancer in males and ranking third in females.
To study some of the epidemiological factors associated with oral cancer.
Cross sectional study.
Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology (KMIO), Bangalore.
Histologically confirmed new cases of oral cancer of all age groups and all stages of the disease attending the hospital during the study period.
The study population consisted of 74.0% males and 26.0% females out of total 200 subjects. Majority of the study population belonged to the 50–59 years,48.5% were illiterates,81.5% were unskilled workers and 34% belonged to class III. Sixty percent were smokers, 47% were paan chewers, 43% were alcoholics and 42.5% had poor hygienic practices.
Oral Cancer, Epidemiological Factors
