What is the effectiveness of training to community health workers (ASHA, ANM, BHW, LHV) under the Comprehensive Child Survival(CCSP) training Programme?
To assess the effectiveness of training given to community health workers(ASHA, ANM, B HW, LHV) under CCSP training Programme.
Cross Sectional Study.
12 months ie-April2009 till March2010
ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists), ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife), BHW (Basic Health Worker), LHV(Lady Health Visitor) who have taken the training formed the study group.
A pre designed pre tested self administered questionnaire was administered to the participants on the 1stday and 10thday of their training. The result was analyzed by using suitable statistical package.
Among the 320 participants 286 were ASHA, 27 BHW, 5ANM, 3 were LHVs. Their mean pretest score was 10.15/20.0(50%) and their mean post test score was 16.70/20.0(80.3%). It was observed that there was a 32% Improvement in the knowledge of the participants due to this training.
The findings from this study indicate that the training course is effective in improving the knowledge on various aspects of maternal and child health. It is recommended that to sustain this improvement a 6 monthly/12 monthly sensitization of the workers should be carried out.
