Abstract

Evaluate the effectiveness of comprehensive intervention package among anemic adolescent girls enrolled in weekly iron folic acid supplementation.

An evaluative research approach with experimental pretest posttest control group design was used. The sampling technique was probability simple random sampling. Data was collected from 30 anemic adolescent girls enrolled in weekly iron folic acid supplementation from selected schools of Coimbatore. The data collected regarding demographic data, anthropometric measurement, and quality of life. Blood sample was collected from each subject to estimate the hemoglobin and serum feritin estimation. Modified Harvard step test was carried out to assess the physical work capacity and Ravens progressive matrices test was done to assess the level of cognitive function of the subjects.

The result of the study revealed that the significance difference between the mean pretest and posttest values of the outcome variables in the experimental group was statistically tested using paired ‘t'test and was found to be highly significant at 0.05 level of significance. The significance difference of the mean posttest scores of outcome variables between experimental and control group was statistically tested by using independenf f test and found that a highly significant difference was present.

Therefore, the study concluded that comprehensive intervention programme was effective in controlling anemia among anemic adolescent girls.
