The present study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of RC-Prep, Canalizer, Maleic acid and Citric acid on the microhardness of root canal dentine
Materials & Method: Twenty intact freshly extracted single rooted maxillary and mandibular anterior human teeth were sectioned and the surfaces were prepared for microhardness tests. Samples in all the groups were treated with the specific chelating agent 1ml for 1 minute followed by final irrigation with 0.9% saline. Vicker's microhardness test was used to determine the microhardness and comparison was done before and after the application of chelating agents.
Data collected subjected to statistical analysis. Post hoc Tukey test and paired t test were applied to check the association between groups. Microhardness value was greatly reduced for Maleic acid followed by RC prep and Canalizer with mean reduction of microhardness were 5.5983 with SD1.589303; 5.9306 with SD0.452864; 7.8441with SD0.944087 and for RC Prep, Canalizer, Maleic acid respectively. However with citric acid there was a minimum decrease in microhardness value of mean 1.45134with SD 0.53616.
The data of present study concluded teeth treated with 7% maleic acid had the maximum reduction of microhardness followed by RC Prep and then Canalizer with statistically significant difference. 10%Citric acid was least effective in reducing the microhardness of the root canal dentine.
