High prevalence of medical illness in those with mental health problems the coexistence of depression with medical illness is a topic of considerable clinical and research interest. Depression may complicate the treatment of medical conditions is fairly well established, but the extent of and the reasons for these complications are not well understood.
To assess the prevalence of comorbid medical illness in patients of depression.
Study comprised of 100 consecutive cases of depression of all severity attending psychiatry OPD at PMCH
Age of the patients range from 21–60 years with mean age of 38.05 years with SD of 11.14. Physical illnesses were associated with 30.77% between 51–60 years. 83.33% of the patient having physical illness with a duration of depression between 6–10 years and 100% of the patient having physical illness with a duration of depression of more than 10 years
These findings suggest that patients with depression have an increased risk of certain medical conditions.
