Study to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on neonatal rearing practices

The health of a new born is always a matter of great concern to every parents. Recognition of the signs of serious illness in newborn by the mothers had been shown to be of great concern in several developing countries¹. Among all the different factors one of the most important factor leading to neonatal mortality and morbidity is ignorance or wrong newborn care. New born babies constitute the foundation of life². To decrease the morbidity and mortality it is necessary to impart knowledge to mothers regarding Neonatal rearing practices. This study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of self instructional module on knowledge of primi parous mothers admitted in the obstetric ward of selected Hospital of Dehradun, Uttrakhand. A sample of 60 mothers were selected by purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by using Structured Knowledge Questionnaire and Self Instructional Module was given after taking a pre-test and the final data was analyzed by using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The study was concluded that self instructional module was effective to impart and improve knowledge of Neonatal rearing practices.
