Abstract

Teaching-Learning is a continuous process in the medical curriculum. Its methodologies need to be kept under continuous review. Feedback from students serves as an effective tool in developing teaching methodology in undergraduate medical teaching. There is a need of reviewing the teaching learning methods time to time with required modifications.

To assess the perception and feedback of medical students on various teaching learning methods in a class room.

Observational cross sectional study was conducted among 200 final year medical students from VI and VIII semester of Andhra Medical college in the month of June 2016. Predesigned and pretested study questionnaire was filled after taking Informed consent. Data was entered in Microsoft Office Excel 2007 and descriptive statistics were used for analysis.

Out of 200 medical students, 87(43.5%) were males and 113(56.5%) were females. The mean age of students was 20.7 years. Majority, 75.5% of the study participants opted combined usage of LCD projector and Black board as an ideal teaching learning media. More than 3/4th (76.5%) of the students preferred interactive sessions in the lecture. Only 4% of the students know the topic of lecture session prior to the lecture. Almost all (97.5%) of the students felt that video clips or animated pictures in lecture will further enhance their learning process. Out of 200, 145 students (72.5%) preferred group discussion to be part of lecture. Students who were using mobile phones during lecture session most of the time and some of the time were 18 (9%) and 78 (39%) respectively.

Faculty lectures should be made more interactive. To enhance student participation, methods such as seminars, role plays and group discussions should be done. Use of multiple media during teaching learning sessions is to be adopted.
