Plans for stadium usage after the international mega sporting event: The 2018 pyeongchang winter olympics

It is necessary to thoroughly prepare and plan for the utilization of a tangible heritage left after a mega sporting event because it is not simply a disposable business event and is also a catalyst for the economic development of the Korean winter sports industry. I would like to propose a plan to maximize the post use of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Stadium. This study adopts the method of collection through the use of multiple document data: research reports and journals related to this research topic, announcements related to the post use of the Winter Olympic Stadium, seminar reports, and various newspaper articles. We accomplished the purpose of our study by using 4 successful Winter Olympic models: Lillehammer, Salt Lake, Torino and Vancouver. Thereafter, we conducted research based on the documents reported by the Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Organizing Committee until March 2017. The results are as follows. First, it was confirmed that most of the four ideal models used a complex facility where various activities could be performed. Second, after the Pyeongchang Olympic Games, there is a need to reorganize and dispose of un-needed facilities and use the remaining stadiums as multipurpose facilities. Third, newly discovered variables in the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games are ‘global warming’ and ‘ICT’. The Improvements are as follows. First, various approaches such as interviews and surveys are needed to accommodate the diverse opinions of Olympic venue stakeholders. Second, the International Standard for a stadium has various regulations on usage and acceptance by each country, but this study does not cover law.
