A study on effect of technological innovation and patent competency on business performance

Abstract

This study intends to determine the factors involved in the effects of technological innovation competency on patent and technology commercialization competencies, and the effects of patent and technology commercialization competencies on business performance.

This study surveys 180 R&D personnel working in the field. The data analysis indicates significant relationships between the technological innovation competency, technology commercialization competency, new product performance and business performance.

As the advancement of technology catalyzes the already tough competition, companies adopt diverse innovative moves to stay afloat in global market. When it comes to innovation, corporate competencies override anything else. Particularly, technological innovation, technology commercialization and patent competencies directly impact on business performance and play critical roles.

The present findings will serve as a practical guideline for corporate R&D staff to implement an integrated and strategic management over technological innovation, patent and technology commercialization competencies.
