Effects of good behavior game as an interdependent group contingency on decreasing disruptive behaviors of young children with autism spectrum disorder

Abstract

This study demonstrated (a) effects of group contingencies and GBG by proving strong functional relationship between GBG and disruptive behaviors among autistic children and (b) proved prominence of interdependent group contingency (GC) among three GC’s.

Six students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a treatment center participated in this study. A hybrid experimental design form of reversal design of “ABABAC” and alternating treatment design was used. Visual analysis was utilized to examine effects of GBG on disruptive behaviors across initial four phases and data paths of interdependent GC procedure in the final phase was also analyzed to show eminent differences among GCs, proving strong functional relationship.

Finally, young children with ASD could have longer attention toward more skill acquisition under GBG or interdependent GC conditions, which could result in maximum achievement of academic goals.
