A comparison study of lifestyle patterns between ischemic stroke and healthy adults

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in lifestyle pattern between ischemic stroke patients and healthy adults. The study was designed to be a retrospective comparison survey study of total 14 participants that divided the ischemic stroke outpatient(experimental group) and healthy adult(control group). 7 ischemic stroke patients visited N rehabilitation hospital and 7 healthy adults who were visited Seongnam Senior Experience Complex on April 2017.

Participants were surveyed using a 7-item lifestyle pattern questionnaire along with their general characteristics. In the above 7 items, sports and leisure activities were significantly different between the two groups. Particularly, in the items asking the experience of sports and leisure activities more than 3 times a week, there was the greatest difference in responding that 1 person was in the stroke group and 6 people were in the health group. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

As a result of comparing the lifestyle of ischemic stroke patients and healthy adults, there was a difference in activity time, drinking and smoking. Although there are limitations on the number of participants, it is concluded that exercise experience is correlated with the incidence of cerebrovascular disease.

Based on the results of this preliminary study, we plan to study the correlation between lifestyle pattern and cerebrovascular disease outcome in more participants.
