Effectiveness of education health program on nurses’ practices toward neonates care with sepsis in incubator in neonatal intensive care unit in teaching hospitals Baghdad city

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the educational health program that will be conducted to improve nurse practical skills toward care of neonates with sepsis in incubator and find the relationship between the nurses’ practices and their demographic characteristics. A Quasi experimental study was carried out in 8 teaching hospitals (Abin Al-Baladi Maternal and Child Teaching Hospital, Elwia pediatrics Teaching hospital, Children Welfare Teaching Hospital, Central pediatric Teaching Hospital, Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital, Alkadhmiya pediatrics hospital, AL-Imamain AL-Khadmiyain teaching hospital, and Karkh maternity Hospital) in Baghdad City from the 20th november 2017 to 10th of June 2018. The socio-demographic characteristics of 50 nurses included 27 (54%) who were in age group of 28-37 years, 31 (62%) were married, 39 (78%) were graduates of secondary nursing school, 38 (76%) had 1-5 years of hospital work and 43 (86%) had 1-5 years of work in the neonatal care unit. Only 4% had previous related training courses. Most nurses had inadequate practice for caring of babies with neonatal sepsis in the incubator before application of educational health program in pretest that was improved in posttest I and 2.
