A study of pregnant women’s knowledge and practices toward the prevention of urinary tract infection in Babylon Province/Iraq

Abstract

Urinary tract infection is one of the very common and important health conditions that trouble many women in their reproductive years. Objectives: are to identify the demographical Characteristics of the sample, also to assess the pregnant women’s knowledge and practices and to find out the association between the pregnant women’s knowledge, practices and demographical characteristics of the sample. Methodology: A cross sectional descriptive study was conducted on non-probability convenient sampling approach which consists of (200) pregnant women who attending the primary health care centers in Babylon province from the period (25th October/2017 to 13 June 2018). The results of the present study show that the overall assessment of pregnant women’s knowledge was good 156 (78.0%), the overall assessment of pregnant women’s practices was 188(94.0 %), also the findings show that there were highly significant association between pregnant women’s knowledge with their demographical characteristics in regard to the level of education at (P= 0.00) and non-significant association between pregnant women’s practices with demographical characteristics regarding age, educational Level at (P>0.05). Conclusion: the study concludes that most of study sample their knowledge and practices were good and there was non-significant association between pregnant women’s practices with demographical characteristics.
