Thoracic surgery is a branch of medicine involved in the surgical treatment of diseases affecting organs within the thoracic cage. General treatment for conditions of the lungs and components of the chest wall and diaphragm. A quasi-experimental design study conducted in Baghdad Teaching Hospitals from the period of October 4th, 2017 to August 4th 2018. The sample is divided into two groups; (25) patients (study group) are exposed to the educational program and (25) patients (control group) are not exposed to the program. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher has established the questionnaire format which is composed of three parts and introductory page that invites the subjects to participate in the study. Part-I: socio-demographic information is includes (5) items; which as age groups, gender, level of education, occupation and monthly income); part II: Second part which is consist of 5 items concerned with the collection of patient health status is filled by the researcher previous surgeries, chronic diseases cardiovascular disease, Asthma, Respiratory diseases Pneumonia, lung cancer, COPD, TB, chest trauma (stabbing wound, gunshot). The cause of chest tube insertion (Hemothorax, Pneumothorax, Pleural effusion, Pleural empyema), the History of smoking, Family history of lung diseases.
