Effectiveness of health education program for patient’s physical self-concept and actual foot-care behavior in people with diabetes mellitus toward managing feet at endocrinology and diabetes center in Al-Rusafa sector

Abstract

Objectives of our study were assess the effectiveness of educational program on improving Patient’s Physical Self-Concept and Actual Foot-Care behavior in People with Diabetes Mellitus concerning managing their feet. Adescriptive analytic (quasi-experimental) design study was carried out at Diabetic and Endocrinology Center in baghdad-Rusafa Sector from 2nd of May 2017, to27th June 2018. Non-probability sample of (80) male and female diabetic patients were selected. The study instruments consisted of two major the second part is related to Patient’s Physical Self-Concept and Actual Foot-Care behavior in People with Diabetes Mellitus. The researcher examined the patients’ Physical Self-Concept and Actual Foot-Care behavior by introducing the pre-test then, the teaching program of three lectures was given. The data were analyzed by using two statistical approaches: Descriptive and Inferential statistics. The study revealed that the most of participants in the study group in the pretest time have poor foot care preventive behaviors (n = 26; 65.0%), for the post-test as opposed to the pre-test which the majority have good foot care preventive behaviors (n = 34; 85.0%), The study recommended that type 2 diabetic patients should be encouraged to attend specific educational programs and workshops concerning Patient’s Physical Self-Concept.
