Indian Media and Mental Illnesses: Beyond the Love Hate Relationship

Impact of cine media is extremely important in regional movies where actors and actresses are being worshipped as god. Initial stigmatization about madness is gradually changing to some strong social messages. ‘Bollywood’ films generally feature strong messages, often reinforcing traditional principles such as family values and acceptance by society. The media portrayal; cinema and emotion; attitudes towards mental illness; socio-economic factors and cinema in India; Indian personality, villainy and history; and psychoanalysis in the films of the 60s has been discussed.
