Abstract

Skills are the learned capacity which helps us to do a task effectively. Skills are abilities to use know-how to complete tasks.

`To assess the knowledge of life skills training program among inmates of a selected rehabilitation center.

Quantitative approach was adopted for the study. The research design was pre experimental one group pre test post test design. Thirty inmates were selected from a Rehabilitation Center in Hyderabad, Telangana through convenient sampling. A structured questionnaire was administered to collect the data from the subjects. The reliability was computed by split half method and found to be 1 which indicated perfect reliability.

It was found during pre test that 36.6% inmates had poor knowledge and 63.3% inmates had average knowledge in pretest. However, after life skills training (post-test) there was significant improvement in the knowledge as 80% of inmates had good knowledge and only 20% of inmates had average knowledge which indicated that structured teaching improved the level of knowledge.

Life skills training can promote interactive, decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking and stress management skills and lead to more social acceptability, which in turn reduce the risk for mental illness. It is recommended to plan and perform constant life skills training workshops as effective tools for development of psychosocial skills.
