Abstract

Low back pain is common worldwide, with 60–80% of people affected at some time in their lives LBP has a major impact on health and health related quality of life, diminishing the capacity for standing, walking and sitting. Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction is associated with the development of low back pain. The pelvic floor is an important integral component of the core stabilizing muscles, but many therapists and patients with low Back pain neglect to train pelvic floor muscles. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the additive effect of pelvic floor exercises along with conventional regimen versus conventional regimen alone on self reported pain levels and disability in patients with chronic low back pain.

30 patients in an group 25–50 years having chronic low back pain (>3 months) were screened as per the inclusion criteria 30 patients were randomized to two groups with 15 patients in each group. Group A received conventional regimen while group B was subjected to the pelvic floor exercise the outcome of interest like disability via Oswestry Disability index(ODI) & Pain via Numerical pain rating scale (NPRS) were assessed at baseline & at the end of 6 weeks treatment Protocol.

The study included 30 patients(group A n =15; group B n=15) pain intensity (NPRS) score and ODI scores were significantly lower in the Group B at the end of 6 weeks.

Pelvic Floor exercises in combination with routine treatment provided significant benefits in terms of pain relief and disability over routine treatment alone.
