Glenohumeral Internal Rotation Deficit (GIRD) in Asymptomatic Collegiate Cricket Bowlers and Badminton Players

Abstract

To observe the presence of Glenohumeral internal rotation deficit (GIRD) in collegiate cricket bowlers and badminton players and non-players.

51 collegiate athletes were selected for the study from KIMSDU, Karad. IR range of motion (ROM) and ER ROM was measured using universal goniometreTM. GIRD was measured as a difference of IR ROM of non dominant shoulder minus IR ROM of dominant shoulder.

The data was statistically analysed using one way ANOVA. GIRD was statistically significant in cricket bowlers (p=0.0074) and not was statistically significant in badminton players (p>0.05) and was not was statistically significant in non-players (p>0.05)

We conclude that GIRD was seen in all three groups-cricket bowlers, badminton players and non-players, with maximum in cricket bowlers.
