Effect of Free Exercise and Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract

Interventional group showed significant improvement on functional status index patient treated with free exercises in RA patient.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that results in chronic systemic inflammatory disorder that may affect many tissues and organs, but principally attacks synovial joints. It is characterised by chronic erosive synovitis, which may lead to several degree of articular destruction, loss of function and increased energy expenditure.

To assess the effectiveness of free exercises in rheumatoid arthritis patient. To improve the quality of life of in RA patients.

16 clinically diagnosed RA patient were recruited. Free exercises are given to all joints e.g. shoulder, wrist, hip etc. each exercise, 3 sets of 10 repetitions had given thrice a week for consecutively 5 weeks. Patients were assessed pre and post treatment to study the effectiveness of free exercises in RA patient by using functional status index scale after 5 week.

The total subject participated in study were 16 from which 5 was male and 11 was female. The data was statistically analysed using Wilcoxon and pair ‘t ’test. The P value by paired t test was found to be <0.0001 which is statistically significant.

The free exercises improve relief of pain, and reduction in functional disability in rheumatoid arthritis patient. Thus the alternative hypothesis is proved.
