Effect of Therapeutic Exercise Programme in Adults with Early Rheumatoid Arthritis

Abstract

The impairment & resulting disability caused by RA can be ameliorated by a rehabilitation programme consisting of education, exercise & pain relief modalities have been shown to benefit. Therapeutic exercise programme for RA patients is specifically designed to deal with all possible impairments where physical therapy plays major role. It is important in helping patients with RA manage their disease.

Comparative study was conducted 30 subjects with Age group between 20–55 years were recruited from the OPD at Faculty of Physiotherapy, KIMSDU, Karad. Subjects were divided randomly in 2 groups one group therapeutic exercise programme and for other group conventional therapy. Duration of therapeutic exercise programme was 45 min.; exercises are continued for 12 weeks-5 days per week. Similarly procedure was continued for 12 weeks; post training assessment was done and the data was analyzed statistically.

In Post-training: There was significant improvement noted in Functional status, Grip strength and EURO-QOL in Group I There was no any significant improvement noted in all outcome measures in Group II.

Therapeutic exercise programme is effective in improving functional status, grip strength and perceived health in adults with early Rheumatoid arthritis.
