Abstract

Arches of the foot plays a major role in walking, running and jumping. Foot arches are supported by various ligaments and muscles, among that tibialis posterior is one of the major muscle which maintains the integrity of the foot arch structure.

To assess the effectiveness of structural and biomechanical assessment in foot arch structure among the adults of both males and females.

A total number of 200 individuals (100males and 100females) between the age group of 40–65 years are volunteered to participate in this study. The study was approved by the institutional ethics committee (IEC). From plantar scan images (PSI) the parameters Arch angle (AA), Chippaux index (CI), Staheli index (SI) were observed. From biomechanical assessment the parameters Toe extension (TE), Navicular drop test (NDT), Knee lunge test(KLT), Heel raise test (HRT) were observed.

Our results showed that the linear correlation between the structural assessment was statistically significant overall 26.3% of the individuals are found to be flat foot and 11.30% are found to be high arched foot.

Musculoskeletal injuries and degeneration are most commonly seen in old age people, since we have assessed arches of the foot and its problems, further research is to be needed to develop a treatment protocol for the foot problems.
