Community Participation of Spinal Cord Injury Patients in Different Climatic and Cultural Conditions of Himachal Pradesh

Abstract

Community participation requires being able to fulfil person roles as members of their households, participants in their community and citizen of their world. Such participation in the community is ultimate outcome of rehabilitation for persons with disabilities including spinal cord injuries. It is even worse when the person is from area, where the physical surroundings may not be suitable for wheelchairs and where members of community regard crippled people as cursed. The purpose of this study is to investigate the factors effecting the community participation of people living with SCI in hilly areas of Himachal.

A Descriptive, survey research designs was used. A total of 40 spinal cord injury patients participated in the study.

The significant value indicating that the person is accepting the community participation with good relationships value.

Many factors including personal factors are associated with community participation of PLWSCI, living in different cultural and geographic conditions of Himachal Pradesh.
