Abstract

To identify cause of knee pain in Bharatanatyam dancers in the age group of 13 to 19 years

To assess knee joint in Bharatanatyam dancers in the age group of 13 to 19 years

The aim of the study was to identify the cause of knee pain in Bharatnatyam dancers in the age group of 13 to 19 years. Total 50 subjects were selected according to the criteria. Assessment for flexibilty, strength, instability, hyperflexibility and alignment of patella was performed. Out of 50 subjects, 52% had reduced strength, 21% hd increased quadriceps angle, 17% had tightness of lower limb muscles and 7% were hypermobile.

In this study it was seen that reduced strength, increased quadriceps angle, inflexibility and hypermobility were the common causes of knee pain in Bharatanatyam dancers in the age group of 13 to 19 years.
