To study the prevalence of depression in COPD patients.
To investigate the rate and severity of depression in COPD patients in India using HAM-D scale.
The aim of the study was to find the prevalence and severity of depression in COPD patients. A total of 150 subjects were selected according to the criteria's needed. HAM-D scale was used for testing depression and its severity. The score was recorded. 63% subjects with COPD have depression and 37% subjects with COPD did no experience any kind of depression. 55 subjects were normal (0–7), 59 subjects had mild (8–13) depression, 20 subjects had moderate (14–18) depression and 11 subjects had severe (19–22) depression.
Our study shows that there is high (63%) prevalence of depression in patients COPD. In which, 59 subjects had mild depression, 20 subjects had moderate depression and 11 subjects had severe depression.
