To determine the alteration in systolic blood pressure during intermittent and continuous cervical traction in normal healthy individuals.
Comparative Study.
60 healthy participants aged between 18–25 years were included in the study. They were then randomized by lottery method using convenient sampling method into intermittent cervical traction group A (n=30) and Continuous cervical traction group B (n=30). Each group the blood pressure was measured before, during and after the application of cervical traction. The repeated ANOVA test was used to compare the variations in systolic blood pressure within groups while two sample independent‘t’ test was used for between group differences. Level of significance was set at p<0.05.
There was no statistically significant difference in mean BP between group A and group B (p=0.137)
Based on the results, conducting a comparative study using the same traction weight and with a small sample size might have led to weak negative correlation. Hence, we strongly feel that further research needs to be done considering gender differences independently and also with a larger sample.
