Case control study: Influence factor of exclusive breastfeeding Primipara in rural Pinrang Regency

The proportion of mothers who breastfeed their babies exclusively for up to 6 months is 42.13% and 0–5 months is 49.35%. This shows that it is still lower than the Pinrang District Strategic Plan target in 2017 which is 75%. This study aims to assess the scope and factors associated with exclusive breastfeeding in Primipara in the Pinrang District countryside. This study uses a case control study research design. Interviews were conducted on primiparous mothers who had babies aged 0–12 months. This study was conducted on 290 primiparous mothers with infants randomly selected in rural areas of Pinrang District. Multivariate analysis using logistic regression using SPSS software. The results showed that exclusive breastfeeding in Primipara in the Pinrang District countryside was 30.7%. Multivariate analysis showed that there was a statistically significant relationship between maternal knowledge (OR = 3.779.95% CI; (1.938.7.444) P = 0.000) and type of delivery (OR = 2.904, 95% CI; (1.357–6.214) P = 0.007) with exclusive breastfeeding. However, it was found that there was no relationship between education level, maternal occupation, family income, place of birth, attitude, exposure to information, ANC visits, husband's support, family support, support from health workers with exclusive breastfeeding. It is recommended for families, husbands and people to support exclusive breastfeeding for mothers, cadres to provide information and internal approaches to mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding to infants.
