Neck pain is a common problem. It has many causes some of them may be due to tightness of muscles of both neck and upper back, or pinching sensation of the nerves originating from the cervical vertebrae and also caused by other numerous spinal problems
The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of deep cervical flexors training and neck stabilization exercises in chronic Neck Pain.
100 subjects were assessed with chronic neck pain and out of that only 70 were recruited who are willing to be in the study and they were randomly allocated into two groups. In Group A (n=35) subjects were treated with Deep cervical flexors training, where the intervention was done thrice a week for 4 weeks, where as in Group B (n=35) subjects were treated with neck stabilization exercises. The outcome of this intervention was Visual analog scale (VAS), Neck disability index scale (NDI) AND manual muscle testing (MMT) which were recorded before and after post session of the 4 weeks intervention.
Statistical analysis of the data revealed that in within group comparison both group showed significant improvement for all parameters whereas in between group comparison showed there is significant improvement at 3rd week itself and highly significant at 4th week in between groups.
Both interventions are effective. When compared with Neck stabilization, Deep Cervical flexors training showed better reduction in pain intensity, functional disability and improve muscle strength in participants with chronic neck pain.
