The postnatal period has been described as the most critical; yet neglected phase in the motherhood. Lumbo-pelvic instability has been attributed as one of major cause for post-partum lumbar pain resulting due to core muscle weakness, being the usual problem in postnatal period. Hence, this study wasaimed to diagnose the lumbopelvic instability, and to find out the effect of core muscles stabilization exercises on postpartum low back pain due to lumbo-pelvic instability.
30postpartum females with vaginal deliveryin the age group of 20–40 years, suffering from lumbo-pelvic instability with low back painwere recruited. Initially, the lumbo-pelvic instability was ruled out by series of clinical test. Later, the subjects were provided core stabilization exercises with week wise progression till 4 weeks. The outcome of interest included numerical pain rating scale (NPRS), and core muscle strength via pressure biofeedback unit, which were recorded at week 1 and week 4.
At the end of 4 weeks, there was significant improvement noted in postpartum lumbopelvic pain and core muscle strength after the application of core stabilization exercises to postpartum female individuals at p <0.05, on paired t-test
Core stabilization exercises have a profound effect in restoring lumbopelvic instability, as itreduces lumbopelvic pain, and improves the core muscle strength in postpartum female individuals.
