Muscle Energy Technique for Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction-An Evidence Based Practice

Abstract

Most common source of low back pain is Sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Dysfunction is characterized by pain in the gluteal, posterior thigh and groin region with some functional disability. Physical therapy strategies emphasize manual correction of SIJ asymmetry, use of physical modalities lumbopelvic stabilization and correction of muscle imbalance. For many years, MET has been advocated to treat muscle imbalances of the lumbopelvic region such as pelvis asymmetry. Muscle Energy Technique (MET) which is a form of active stretch is used in manual therapy to increase range of motion. It targets the soft tissue primarily, although it also makes a major contribution towards joint mobilization.
