To evaluate and compare the cervical spine posture of young collegiate badminton players and non-training collegiate students.
A total of 80 male subjects all aged between 18–25 years were recruited based on the inclusion criteria and divided into two groups. Group A had 40 collegiate badminton players and Group B had 40 untrained collegiate students. The subjects underwent a baseline evaluation procedure where height, body weight and BMI were determined. Cervical spine posture was measured using sagittal head tilt and craniovertebral angle.
The results were revealed using unpaired t-test with alpha being set at 0.05 level (p<0.05). Absolute values of t for sagittal head tilt came out to be 0.124 (p = 0.534) and for craniovertebral angle it was 0.156 (p = 0.729). No significant differences were found between the two groups for any of the angles of cervical spine.
It can be concluded that through posture analysis, playing badminton does not impose any impact on cervical spine posture. Thus no significant differences were found in the posture of collegiate badminton players as compared to untrained peers.
