Supine and prone - lying back extension exercise training in patients with mechanical low back pain

Abstract

To compare the effectiveness of Supine and prone - Lying Back Extension Exercise Training in Patients with Mechanical Low Back Pain.

A 2 (Groups) X 2(Time frames) Experimental design.

Out-Patient Department

Twenty men with mechanical low back pain (age 20–50 years) were randomly assigned into two equal groups. Subjects in group 1(n=10), and in group 2 (n=10).

Twenty men with mechanical low back pain (age 20–50 years) were randomly assigned into two equal groups. Subjects in group 1(n=10) were trained with Supine-Lying Back Extension Exercise Training and treated with Interferential therapy, whereas those assigned to group 2(n=10) were trained with Prone-Lying Back Extension Exercise Training and treated with Interferential therapy. The therapy programs were standardized and administered 6 times a week, for 2 weeks, first week repeat the exercise for 10 times and on second week progress to 20 times.. The numerical pain rating scale and Modified lumbar Schober (extension) of all the subjects was evaluated before therapy and at the end of training. A standardized statistical tool paired ‘T’ test was used to compare the effectiveness of Supine and prone -Lying Back Extension Exercise Training In Patients With Mechanical Low Back Pain.

The result of the statistical analysis showed significant difference at 0.05 level of significance; hence Supine-Lying Back Extension Exercise Training is effective than prone – lying back extension exercise training, on pain modulation and augmenting spinal mobility in patients with mechanical low back pain.
