A Comparitive Study on the Efficacy of End Range Mobilization Techniques in Treatment of Adhesive Capsulitis of Shoulder

Exercises and ultrasound therapy is the widely used treatment for chronic adhesive capsulitis and has ample research literature support while the same is not true regarding the claims pertaining to the applicability of Manual Mobilization Techniques in resolution of clinical complaints associated with adhesive capsulitis. This randomised control trail was conducted to assess the effectiveness of End Range Mobilization Techniques in the treatment of chronic adhesive capsulitis. A matched subject size of 22 patients with frozen shoulder was divided into two groups of 11 subjects each and named Experimental (Age Range - 41 to 55 years, Mean age - 46.5 Years S.D 4.44) and Control group (Age Range - 40 to 56 years, Mean age - 47.45 years S.D 5.49).

Both groups were treated for 3 weeks with Exercises and Ultrasound and the experimental group was given the End Range Mobilization Techniques also. The outcome measures taken were variation in Active and Passive ROM (Manual Goniometric measurement) and pain (Visual analog scale).

The data obtained was statistically analysed using Student's t test and ANACOVA (F ratio). Analysis showed that there was no difference between the groups in the amount of pain reduction obtained (p≤0.05), but the Experimental group was considerably better (p≤0.05), than control group in terms of gaining active and passive ranges of motion among the subjects.
