Abstract

Whole body vibration (WBV) is a new type of exercise that has been increasingly tested for the ability to prevent bone fractures and osteoporosis in frail people. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a 6-month WBV training program on bone mineral density (BMD) in cerebral palsy children. Thirty cerebral palsy children with age from 10 up to 13years who were volunteered to be subjects. They were randomly assigned to control and study group. The control group received the exercise program only while; the study group received WBV training in addition to the same program given to the control group.BMD was measured using Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry at baseline and after 6 months. The results of the study revealed no significant difference was recorded between the two groups before treatment. While after 6 months, significant improvement was recorded in the two groups. There was also significant difference between the two groups in favor of the study group. Thus, whole body vibration training plays an important role in improving patients bone mineral density.
